Illness Anxiety Disorder
Most of us may have worry about our health from time to time, especially when an illness occurs. Illness anxiety disorder is diagnosed when a person with or without a medical condition becomes excessively worried about the possibility of an illness, becomes increasingly focused on possible symptoms related to that illness, and/or spends excessive time researching health concerns or seeking reassurance about said concerns. Illness anxiety disorder can range from mild to severe, and often interferes with daily living (work, school, relationships, etc).
Our clinical staff are recognized experts in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) of illness anxiety disorder. This therapy often includes an exposure/response prevention component.
