Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Everyone experiences worry; Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is diagnosed when worry about everyday things (school, work, money, family, etc) becomes excessive and hard to control for at least 6 months.  Various associated symptoms also occur, such as insomnia, headaches, GI problems, muscle tension, and trouble concentrating.  GAD affects people across the lifespan, and those with GAD tend to catastrophize (expect the worst outcomes), have difficulty tolerating uncertainty, struggle with perfectionism, and may believe that their worry helps prevent bad things from happening or prepares them for the worst.  Often people close to those with GAD recognize them as worriers.

Like other anxiety disorders, GAD can range from mild to severe, and the impact of GAD on a person's life can be moderate to profound.

Our clinical staff are recognized experts in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) of GAD, an evidence-based treatment for various anxiety disorders.
