Danielle Balaghi, PhD, Fellow
Dr. Balaghi completed her doctoral training in school psychology at Michigan State University in 2018. Her background in school psychology provides her with a unique set of knowledge about the school system and educational law as she has served on multi-disciplinary teams and worked at intermediate school districts advocating for general and special education students’ academic and social-emotional needs. Her research focused on individuals' (especially minority individuals’) psychological well-being with her dissertation investigating the experiences with and responses to perceived discrimination in Arab American adolescents who live in an ethnic enclave. For her dissertation work, she was awarded the University Dissertation Completion Fellowship, College of Education Research Dissertation Development Fellowship, and the Michigan State University Research Enhancement Award. In 2018, Dr. Balaghi finished a predoctoral internship at an APPIC accredited internship at the Egyptian Public and Mental Health Department through the Illinois School Psychology Internship Consortium. During her internship, she worked in a variety of settings, such as community mental health, schools, and primary care settings. Her background and experiences in the school, clinic, and primary care settings allows her to effectively and efficiently coordinate care. Trained via science-practitioner model and being a certified Managing Adaptive Practices therapist, Dr. Balaghi places an emphasis on being data-driven and outcome-focused using evidence-based interventions. For this reason, she sought out clinical specialization in PTSD treatments during her predoctoral internship. She became regionally certified in the state of Illinois in the implementation of Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and is currently seeking National Certification in TF-CBT. She also uses Exposure therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for anxiety disorders. Dr. Balaghi has also provided various in-service trainings on generalized anxiety disorder and its application within clinic and school settings. Born and raised Michigander, Dr. Balaghi is committed to continue providing services within her home state related to building skills, insights, and confidence in order to help improve children and adults anxiety symptoms and overall well-being.
