Dr. Sholander completed his post-doctoral training in clinical psychology at the Anxiety and OCD Treatment Center of Ann Arbor and his pre-doctoral training at the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS). Dr. Sholander’s clinical training was grounded in evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapies. He relies on exposure therapy integrated with acceptance-based strategies to deliver treatment for individuals with OCD and anxiety spectrum disorders and PTSD. He has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). He also has experience with providing differential diagnostic and treatment planning services for clients. 

 

Dr. Sholander has taught research methods and CBT interventions as a Visiting Professor of Clinical Psychology at Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School. His research has focused on investigating how individuals with personality pathology respond differently to different methods of psychological assessment and identifying how individuals with personality pathology utilize medical and psychiatric services.

 

Dr. Sholander’s goal is to create a client-centered, collaborative environment to help you overcome your anxiety and live a life that is consistent with your values. He will tailor empirically based interventions to fit your goals. His clients have described him as warm, empathetic, and kind.

 

Dr. Sholander is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Michigan Psychological Association (MPA), the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS), and the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).
